Novel solitons and their physical properties in coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equation hierarchy

Vector solitons have been extensively investigated both experimentally and theoretically in various nonlinear systems, particularly in Bose-Einstein condensates and nonlinear optical fibers, owing to their high experimental accessibility. Using the Darboux transformation method, we analytically derive exact soliton solutions for multicomponent attractive and repulsive Bose-Einstein condensates described by Manakov equations, obtaining multihump bright solitons and multivalley dark solitons, respectively. For multihump bright solitons, the bright solitons with nodes strikingly correspond to excited bound states in effective quantum wells. For multivalley dark solitons, the velocity and phase jump regions are significantly influenced by width-dependent parameters. Furthermore, we show that interactions between these novel solitons are generally inelastic, due to both incoherent interactions between solitons in different components and coherent interactions between solitons in the same component. More recently, we have also derived a family of multihump-multivalley solitons in birefringent nonlinear fibers governed by the coupled Fokas-Lenells system. We demonstrate the existence of solitons with arbitrary multihump-multivalley structures on a plane wave background. These novel vector solitons significantly  enrich the family of solitons in integrable systems.
